Elevate your health: Zoefull high-phenolic olive oil

27 July 2024

Those who have been following us for a while will know that we are huge fans of good quality extra virgin olive oil… emphasis on quality. We have used it liberally every day for years.  Another one of our mantras relates to using functional foods as medicine, and choosing produce as close to the original source as possible.

So, of course, we jumped at the opportunity to review Zoefull High Phenolic Extra Virgin Wild Olive Oil, referred to as The King of Olive Oils.   Whilst we have always focused on quality, as we have said, we wondered what made this oil so special.   My first thought was “why was such a precious oil packaged in clear bottles, when we know that light exposure can lead to oxidation and degradation?…. Were the bottles plastic? I wondered….”  I was quickly reassured that the bottles were glass and there was a good reason for the transparent packaging.  So let’s start there… whilst it is recommended to keep the oil in a dark place, the motivation for not using dark bottles was to showcase the purity and quality.. now that I think of it, I have known of other high quality, special edition olive oils packaged in clear packaging for this reason.

Back to what is special about Zoefull Wild Olive Oil …

The benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil  (EVOO) is now well documented and extensively researched.  A number of impressive studies demonstrate neuroprotective activity, improvements in cardio vascular health, improved blood sugar regulation and reduced inflammation.    However, not all EVOO is the same.  The most important factors to consider are the olives themselves, and the way they are processed.   Zoefull Wild Olive Oil is, as the name suggests, harvested by hand from uncultivated, ancient Olea sylvestris olive trees (the ancestor of cultivated olive trees) which grow in mountainous areas on the Greek island of Lakonia.   Much of the potent antioxidant activity which is credited with the health benefits of EVOO is attributed to the polyphenol content.   To make a claim of ‘high polyphenol’ content, there needs to be a minimum of 250mg polyphenols per kilo.   Zoefull’s medical grade Wild EVOO contains an astounding 1865mg per kilo … more than 7 times the threshold to claim high polyphenol content!  So there is definitely a tick on the produce quality.  The processing involves purely mechanical crushing of the olives with no application of heat whatsoever.  This cold extraction means that the nutritional properties, and particularly the polyphenol content, are retained, along with flavour.    Again, this is a tick from us and this oil is indeed special.

There is always a limited supply of this particular oil and as such is intended to be used differently to other olive oils … more as a daily health elixir,  with a recommended dose of 10ml, ideally consumed first thing in the morning.

We feel very fortunate to have been introduced to this product and intend to include it in our daily consumption.  The best and most economical way to ensure that you don’t run out is to opt for the subscription.
