Anyone who has followed us on Instagram or has made our recipes, you’ll know we are big fans of superfoods.
‘Superfoods’ to us means foods that have a superior nutritional profile. They are often in powder form containing a number of nutrient dense whole foods (preferably organic), for use as a supplement.
Here are a few of our favourite superfood staples that we use almost every day. We add them to smoothies/nice creams using any variation depending on what we have in our pantry.

#01
Maca powder
Maca is fantastic for balancing hormones, particularly for women. It can help lessen symptoms associated with PMS, menopause and it is even said to control symptoms linked to PCOS. It is also a fantastic source of vitamins and minerals that are believed to enhance energy and uplift your mood.

#02
Goji berries
Goji berries are another go to of ours – a serious antioxidant hit! Goji berries have high nutrient levels that promote healthy hair and skin. We love using them as a topping on smoothie bowls.

#03
Chia seeds
Chia seeds are a great (and easy) way to increase nutrients such as fibre, iron and calcium. We recommend soaking them overnight in filtered water or coconut water to create a chia seed ‘gel’ that can then easily be added to smoothies or made into a chia pudding. Coconut water is a great choice for enhancing nutritional value and adding natural sweetness.

#04
Cacao
Cacao, whether in the form of powder or nibs, contain high levels of flavonoid (an antioxidant that has been linked to prevention of disease such as cancer). Tip – make sure you purchase cacao rather than cocoa to ensure it is minimally processed and maximum nutrients are retained.

#05
Acai and maqui berry powder
Both acai and maqui powder are great sources of antioxidants as well as healthy fats which are good for brain and heart health. These powders are also fantastic for promoting healthy hair, skin and nails due to the high levels of nutrients.
Adding a tablespoon of any of these ingredients into your smoothies or smoothie bowls is such an easy (and delicious) step towards improving your health. You will feel/see the benefits!
