4 frozen bananas
1/4 cup cacao hazelnut butter
1 tsp vanilla bean powder or essence (optional)
1/4 tsp salt (optional)
- Combine all ingredients in a high power blender, blend until smooth and creamy.

What about the sugar content in bananas?
Often people consider bananas to be too high in sugar and calories and therefore best avoided. Despite sugar content, bananas are not only low on the glycaemic index (assisting with blood glucose regulation), but also contain a particular type of carbohydrate called fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). FOS are metabolized in the large intestine by gut bacteria, resulting in higher colonies of beneficial bacteria, such as Bifidobacteria. Bananas also help to correct dysbiosis and associated digestive complaints so prevalent in the Western world. The fibre content in bananas is also beneficial for colon health.
The nutrient most associated with bananas is potassium, an important mineral for our cardio-vascular system, helping to regulate blood pressure. Caution should be taken if people are on medications that increase potassium levels, such as beta blockers and potassium sparing diuretics.
Although not a high protein food, bananas do contain good levels of tryptophan, the precursor amino acid to the neurotransmitter, serotonin (involved in mood and memory).
Other nutrients in bananas include good quantities of vitamin B6, as well as vitamin C, biotin, folate and manganese.
