What can we do to reduce impact of Electro Magnetic Fields and Radiation?
Lurking in the periphery of our awareness is a concern that there is a price to pay for perpetual digital connectivity.
Bringing this to the forefront of my mind has not been comfortable. It means confronting our own behaviours in terms of reliance on convenient, time saving devices, and wanting to believe the scientific studies released from time to time reassuring us that there is no link with regard to electric and magnetic frequencies and adverse health outcomes. It appears that this safety assurance is is largely based on measuring the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) and thermal effects of EMF.
A mounting body of research however cites another non-thermal cause for damage, at a DNA molecular level, as a result of interference with our own electrical systems (via calcium channels). This causes oxidative stress. It is worth noting that magnesium may assist in mitigating this impact.

A study in 2016 linked EMF to widespread necropsychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, poor sleep, neuro-endocrine effects and impaired fertility.

Dr Pall also discusses in detail an important biological mechanism to repair DNA breakage, utilising the pathway known as NRF2 (Nuclear Related Factor 2). This pathway is reliant on a constant supply of NAD (from Vitamin B3), making this an essential tool in the protection against EMF related DNA damage.
We can’t eliminate EMF, however first step is to become aware of ways we can reduce our exposure. According to Lyn McLean, having a meter or a consultant to come to the home is the best place to start.
Once people are aware, there are ways in which we can reduce our exposure, some important measures are:
- Turn wifi off when not using
- Keep cell phones at a distance, that is, do not carry on the body, where possible use speaker mode, or use hollow tube earphones.
- Unplug electrical appliances when not in use.
- Avoid the use of electric blankets, clock radios. There are also high levels of EMF emitted from surprising sources, such as dishwashers, especially when operating, which is something to be aware of while preparing food, depending on location of dishwasher.
Include foods rich in cell protective nutrients such as sulphurophanes found in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage (broccoli sprouts have an even higher concentration of sulphurophanes).
Also ensure sufficient quantities of Vitamin B3 (niacin) and magnesium for reasons stated above.
So-called dirty electricity relates to introduced frequencies with occur in the conversion of electricity in certain appliances, such as televisions, light dimmer switches, fluorescent lights. Some experts regard ‘dirty electricity’ to be one of the most dangerous of EMF exposure.
This includes having bare feet in sand or non contaminated ground (that is grass or earth not contaminated with glyphosate or other chemicals as these may be absorbed through the skin). This practice is thought to have a stabilising effect on our bio-electrical system. Research has confirmed positive impacts that this practice has on measurable parameters relating to inflammation.
Some items are clothing, including hats, are claimed to provide some protection. Individual product would need to be assessed in this case.
