These cheezy turmeric kale chips are our go-to movie snack. They are packed with flavour and loaded with nutrients. We have used nutritional yeast to create that delicious cheesy flavour.

We stock up on our nutritional yeast flakes at our local Bulkfoods store in Zetland. They are great in dips, salad dressing, sauces and spreads, or sprinkled directly over salads and hot dishes as a condiment. This Nutritional Yeast is made from a variety of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (aka brewer’s yeast) that is produced on sugar beet molasses before it is dried and flaked. During the fermentation process, these flakes are fortified with nutrients – including folic acid (average 215 mcg per 10 g serve).

Kale chips are best consumed within a few hours of baking to retain the crunch. We’re lucky if ours last the hour!

What are the key health benefits of kale?

Kale is a highly nutritionally dense leafy vegetable, growing in popularity as a result of its health benefits such as broad spectrum anti-oxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties provide protection against chronic illnesses such as arterial disease and cancer. Kale’s high micronutrient profile, particularly Vitamins A, C and K, as well as calcium and magnesium, assists in numerous metabolic processes. Such processes include immune function, healthy blood clotting and bone density. In addition, kale contains phytonutrient compounds such as indole-3-carbinol, assisting in detoxification processes.
