Over the past month, we have been experimenting with Nature’s Farmer Sea Sea Moss gels, including The OG (original); Purple Butterfly (Mood) and Blue Tongue Wizard (Energy).
We have been testing out both sweet and savoury recipes, and we’ve been blown away by the versatility of this incredibly nutrient-dense product. Before we dive into the properties / benefits of sea moss, we want to stress that Nature’s Farmer Sea gels have no ocean taste whatsoever – so don’t be afraid to add them to your smoothies, or even eat it straight off the spoon!
For those unfamiliar with Sea Moss, the genus used in Nature Farmer Sea’s products (Eucheama cottonii) is a small, edible sea vegetable found in warm, tropical waters – in this case sourced from the pristine waters of the Caribbean.
We share an overarching health philosophy with the team at Nature’s Farmer Sea – our health is our greatest wealth – and we’re thrilled to collaborate with them, and shed light on what we think is possibly the most underrated health food product out there.
Here are five reasons we recommend incorporating Nature’s Farmer Sea into your daily diet!
Nutrition
‘Food as medicine’ is a fundamental part of our philosophy and, at the risk of being repetitive, our belief is that the closer to the source, the better. Supplements can definitely be warranted, especially with soils often being nutrient depleted, however if that supplement comes in the form of a whole, nutrient dense food, we get quite excited.
Nutrient density is always a primary focus for us, as well as the absence of toxic additives. It’s important to remember that because Nature’s Farmer Sea contains no preservatives, this product needs to be kept in the fridge and consumed within a few weeks, which is easily done once in the habit… a habit well worth developing.
Sea Moss is reported to contain 92 out of 102 minerals essential to optimal function, as well as vitamins and amino acids. These nutrients/minerals include Vitamins A, Bs, C, D, E and K, as well as Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Zinc, Selenium, Potassium, Iodine and Calcium. From gut health and skin health, to our immune system, energy production and of course our nervous system, all biochemical processes in the body and mind require a sufficient supply of nutrients in order to function optimally.

Versatility
There are endless ways in which Nature’s Farmer Sea sea moss gels can be used, from taking directly to adding to smoothies and recipes such as we have done.
We’ve shared one of our favourite sea moss recipes – blue(berry) pancakes to demonstrate just how easy it is to use – see below!
In all of our recipes we found that adding the gels helped with consistency but did not alter the flavour of our recipes, making it an extremely versatile way of adding nutrients daily.
Convenience
The ease with which sea moss gels can be added to a number of dishes along with the multi nutrient profile definitely gets a tick of approval from us. We’re grateful for finding an easy way to enjoy and benefit from nature’s bounty. As the gels are neutral tasting, they will not alter the taste of your meals.

Excellent thickening agent
The natural gel quality in sea moss is perfect for thickening smoothies and helps to bind fritters, pancakes and patties, especially if choosing not to use eggs. Think of it like agar agar – just more nutritious!
We love adding the Nature’s Farmer Sea Purple Butterfly Gel to our everyday Acai bowl to create a delicious texture, as well as making it even better for you. Butterfly pea has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine as a mood and cognitive enhancer, improving memory whilst also reducing symptoms of stess, anxiety and depression.
Vegan friendly & sustainably harvested
Obtaining enough nutrients when following a vegan diet can be challenging. Sea Moss is a great plant based source of a wide range of nutrients. Nature’s Farmer Sea gels are 100% natural, non GMO and sustainably ocean harvested.
We can’t wait to trial some more recipes incorporating this nutrient dense and versatile product. In the meantime, here’s our favourite blue(berry) pancakes recipe. We used Nature’s Farmer Sea Blue Tongue Wizard sea moss gel which contains Sea Moss (of course!), alkaline filtered water, fresh lime juice, monk fruit powder, blue spirulina and lemon myrtle. The addition of another functional food, spirulina, further enhances the nutritional profile of this gel, providing a range of amino acids (protein building blocks) as well as further increasing anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
